Cummins Inc would look to ramp up the value of the auto components that it sources from companies in India to $500 million by 2010, according to Mr Ravi Krishnappa, Director for Global Sourcing, Cummins. The company will look to source complex fuel systems, advanced electronic systems and sensors among others.

He told the press that currently, in terms of value, the company sources about $150 million from 30 companies in India.

Overall, the company sources 20-25 per cent of its components from low-cost countries, including India, China, Brazil, Mexico, Eastern Europe and South Korea.

Mr Krishnappa was in Chennai to inaugurate the Global Auto Components Sourcing Fair organised by the Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers' Association (AIEMA), which will run between June 9 and 12 concurrently with ACMEE 2006, an international industrial exhibition also organised by AIEMA.

The global auto components sourcing fair would bring 15 global auto-sourcing companies and 36 participating companies together. The association expects about 1.5 lakh business and non-business visitors to attend the conference.
