Nissan set to recall 1.5 lakh vehicles in Japan to fix defects
06/15/2006 Financial Express
Nissan Motor Co, Japan’s second-biggest automaker, said it will recall 155,452 vehicles in Japan to fix defects in brakes and rear lamps. The company will recall 144,298 Elgrand minivans built between April 2002 and December 2005 to fix the model’s brakes and 11,154 March compact cars made between February 2002 and March 2004 to fix the model’s lights, Nissan said in filings to the country’s transport ministry on Tuesday. No accidents were linked to the faults, the Tokyo-based company said. The Elgrand’s brakes may not stop the minivan as quickly as the vehicle is supposed to, Nissan said. With the March compact, defective backup light switches may keep the rear lights from functioning, the company said. The recall of the March model only affects cars with manual transmissions. Nissan shares fell 2.8% to 1,232 yen at the close of trading in Tokyo.
